ZINC ABSORPTION (ADVICE LEAFLET)
Methods of Getting Zinc Into the Human System
by Nim Barnes.

Zinc Absorption

Some of you have great difficult absorbing and retaining zinc. As zinc is one of the most essential minerals for reproduction, this is very frustrating for everybody concerned.

I am therefore trying to investigate a number of possible additional ways of getting zinc into the system. If some of you, who have this problem, would like to try one or more of these methods, please let me know what you have been doing when you next send in your hair sample.

Bangles
There is a firm making zinc bangles, called Razzmatazz! The bangles cost £10, are made in 2 widths, the number to call is 01287 644477. Ask for Akuzinc bangles. (I am currently wearing one at night and will report on any progress).

Baths
As you know, we do Ziman drops at the Resource Centre. We know that fluoride and copper can be absorbed through the skin while bathing and it seems likely/possible that the same may occur with zinc and/or manganese. So I am putting 8-10 drops in my bath to see if this has any effect.

Foot Baths
Another approach to skin absorption is to put a V* teaspoon of zinc sulphate powder in a foot bath or hand bath (i.e. washing up bowl of hot water) and soak either the hands or feet. Do not ask exactly how much water, or for how long, this is what we are hoping to find out. If you all do something different we will find out more.

Ointments
In my nappy changing days, there used to be an ointment with zinc in it that we used for nappy rash. This is available at chemists and perhaps it could be rubbed into the wrists rather than the bottom!

Sub-Lingual
" Higher Nature'' makes a sub-lingual form of zinc. Their telephone number is 01435 882880.

Food State
Again, "Higher Nature" makes food state zinc. This may be another way forward.

Diets
See Page 11 of the Wholefood Diet Leaflet for foods that are good sources of zinc.

This paper is one of a series of booklets published by FORESIGHT, the Association for the Promotion of Pre-conceptual Care. The purpose of these documents is to make the great wealth of information that can be found in medical and other scientific journals available to prospective parents, health professionals or anyone else who does not have the time and/or the facilities to read them for themselves.
